If your exact company or brand has already been registered, consider using hyphens to separate words or phrases. This method may in fact be an advantage as search engines see a hyphenated URL as separate words, increasing your rankability.
Ibex Internet Ltd also offers a wide range of extensions for your chosen domain name. The following is intended as a guide to help you choose those right for you.
UK registrations:
- .co.uk - for companies uk based.
- .org.uk - usually for organisations and non profit making companies, although can be registered by anyone.
- .net.uk - for Internet Service Providers (ISP's) only.
- .ltd.uk - for UK limited companies only. Registration demands company registration number.
- .plc.uk - for UK PLC's only.
Global Registrations:
- .com - for companies and general use
- .net - usually for Internet Service Providers (ISPs). The international rules are more relaxed than in the UK, so anyone can register a .net domain.
- .org - usually for organisations and non-profit making companies. Once again anyone can register a .org domain.
- .biz - Worldwide businesses
- .info - For portal or information systems
